Waleed Aly and Susan Carland share vintage wedding snap

Waleed Aly and Dr Susan Carland are two of Australia’s most well-known faces, known from their respective TV shows The Project and Child Genius.

Today marks their 19th wedding anniversary, with Carland giving fans a very different take on the pair by sharing a vintage throwback snap from her wedding day — and boy, was it a treat.

“Married 19 years ago today!,” she wrote in the caption.

“Thanks for all the kind wishes, from the Muslim Elsa, Waleed, and Waleed’s Suit,” she continued.

Carland was poking fun at her ice-blue gown with matching veil, referencing Elsa from Disney’s Frozen.

She also made a hilarious nod to Aly’s oversized suit.

On Instagram she added: “also: Men’s suits were massive back then.”

Carland, an academic and media personality, commented on her own post, writing, “IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME OK” and “I did my own makeup,” with the skull face emoji.

The photo is as vintage as it gets, and a painful reminder about the early 2000s fashion sense.

Aly and Carland tied the knot in an Islamic ceremony on the lawns of Melbourne Zoo back in 2002.

Carland spoke to TV WEEK in 2018 about the secret behind her and Aly’s happy marriage.

“I think it’s not just that we love each other, we really like each other. I also think it helps that we both feel we married up. When you both think that, it tends to work pretty well,” she said.

Aly echoed a similar sentiment when he won the TV Week Gold Logie in 2016.

“If she had my job, she’d be better at it than me,” he admitted in his acceptance speech.

“She’s sharper, she’s wittier, she’s funnier, she’s infinitely more charming and likeable and I’m really glad she doesn’t have my job because otherwise I definitely wouldn’t have it.”

He added: “Everyone who knows her knows that she changes you and she makes you better. She’s done that in her work, she’s done that in her community work and they don’t give statuettes to people like that, sadly, but one day if life’s fair they might just give her a statue.”
