Five people were injured when a truck and car crashed and the truck tipped on top of it near Newcastle on Saturday.
Emergency services were called to Gordon Ave in Hamilton after reports an Audi and a truck crashed about 7.30pm on Saturday.
Police were told the Audi A4 and Hyundai Mighty small rigid truck collided near Everton Street. The impact caused the Audi to hit a power pole and the truck to tip on top of the smaller car.
The 26-year-old male driver of the Audi was assessed by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital. A 31-year-old man who was his passenger was believed to have broken his arm and taken to the same hospital.
The Audi driver was also taken for mandatory testing, police said.
The 46-year-old truck driver was trapped inside the vehicle for a time before being freed. He was taken to the same hospital for treatment.
In the truck were also a 41-year-old woman and four-year-old boy, who managed to free themselves.
They were also taken to John Hunter Hospital for minor injuries.
A crime scene was established by local police who were assisted by specialist officers from the Hunter Crash Investigation Unit.
Police have asked members of the public who may have dashcam footage or information to get in touch.
