Man stabbed twice in stomach

A man in his 40s is in hospital after being stabbed twice in the stomach at a busy train station in western Sydney.

Paramedics responded to reports of the stabbing at Parramatta Railway Station just before 1pm on Wednesday.

They treated the man at the scene for two stab wounds to his abdomen.

He was then taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

NSW Ambulance inspector Kevin McSweeney said the victim lost a significant amount of blood.

“Bystanders did a great job raising the alarm and looking after the patient before paramedic crews arrived,” he said.

“Paramedics worked to stabilise the patient before getting him to hospital.”

“Injuries caused by stabbings are always of concern. We can treat the wound as we see it, but it’s the damage you can’t see internally which is a worry.”

NSW Police has set up a crime scene and is investigating the incident.
