BMW’s new autobahn-storming super sedan is headed down under.

The German brand has announced its new M5 CS high-performance car will arrive locally in the middle of the year.

BMW says the M5 CS is its most powerful M car to date thanks to a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine making 467kW and 750Nm, matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

This combination, plus a 70kg weight reduction over the M5 Competition, allows the M5 CS to sprint from 0-100km/h in a supercar-like 3.0-seconds.

The M5 CS goes on to hit 200km/h in just 10.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 305km/h.

But speed like that doesn’t come cheap.

BMW is asking $305,900 drive-away for the M5 CS, and you’ll need to plonk down a refundable $5000 deposit to secure one of only 20 examples headed our way.

Interestingly BMW is selling the M5 CS online only, taking the sales process out of the dealer network.

Mercedes-Benz has started a similar scheme with its electric vehicles where it sells them at a fixed price and the dealers merely handle the delivery and servicing of the vehicles. Honda is headed to this type of sales model later this year.

The M5 CS has plenty of sporty touches, including an Alcantara-trimmed M steering wheel, carbon fibre paddle-shifters, Alcantara headliner, CS badging and contrast stitching throughout.

There is seating for four: leather-wrapped carbon sports seats for the front passengers and two individual leather-coated seats in the rear.

Massive 20-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in sticky Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres and are fitted with carbon ceramic brakes with red calipers to provide ample stopping power.

A sports exhaust will provide the right soundtrack to your driving experience.
