Aldi employee reveals secret sales ticket code, ‘D’ means out of stock product

It goes without saying that almost anything Aldi related is enough to send shoppers wild.

So, just imagine when an Aldi worker revealed there’s a secret code on the sales tickets of some popular buys.

If you didn’t already know, some stores across Australia have a small handwritten ‘D’ on some tags, which means the product is “discontinued” and will no longer be restocked.

The Aldi staffer made the revelation in the Facebook group Aldi Mums while discussing the very popular Bao Buns.

The revelation came in a discussion about the fact the product will no longer be available.

“For all you Bao Bun lovers out there, it might be time to stock up,” she wrote in the group.

“They were on the discontinued list yesterday.

“My first thought when putting the (little) ‘D’ on the ticket, ‘Ohhhh the Aldi Mums are going to be disappointed.’”

And she was right – it left many gutted.

“Now this will be a justified pandemonium with scenes similar to the great toiler paper shop off in 2020,” one woman wrote.

“I’m going to buy like five packets and not even be sorry about it,” added another.

After heading into a local Aldi, can confirm the Bao Buns sales ticket do have a letter ‘D’ on it.

But not all stores do this; some have red stickers that indicate the product won’t be making a comeback. can also confirm staff often mark the price tag of limited-edition products that won’t be replenished, so they can find them easily on shelves.

An Aldi spokesperon didn’t confirm nor deny whether the popular Bao Buns will be making a comeback – despite the discontinued tag.

“Right now, they are a limited-edition product which means they are available while stocks last,” the spokesperson told

“We often release limited-edition items as a way for us to share new creations with our customers, and we love it when they get such a great response.

“We definitely take our customers’ feedback into consideration when it comes to bringing favourite products back to shelves, or even adding them to our everyday range”.
