Our support group for people affected by leukodystrophy is itself well supported by the very special ‘ordinary’ Australians who are members of the ALDS. Without the volunteer participation of our members, our organisation could not continue to do the job it does so well. Each and every one of the ALDS members contributes to the group in ways that make a difference.
Our membership of more than 200 people is diverse and includes people from Australian cities, towns and farms. In fact, some of our members are our regional neighbours from as far away as New Zealand and South East Asia.
Some members are directly affected by one of the many different types of leukodystrophy, while others have a relative or friend who suffers from the disease. A smaller, but important, part of the ALDS membership is drawn from those families and individuals who have lost someone they loved to leukodystrophy.
Currently, we have members representing 16 different types of leukodystrophy, including the ‘undiagnosed’ category.
Our financial supporters are another essential group of members. These wonderful people join the ALDS because they want to help us continue our vital work of supporting people who are affected by leukodystrophy. We welcome one and all.
