AGM – Gene Therapy for Leukodystrophy

There is currently very little research into white matter diseases in Australia. This has changed when Associate Professor Matthias Klugmann and his team started their work in the Translational Neuroscience Facility at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2010. Since then Matthias was awarded a prestigious Future Fellowship by the Australian Research Council (ARC) for his research program on the role of a major brain metabolite in the etiology of leukodystrophies. Australian Transplant Games

We are so proud of Josh Yates, an ALDS WA member who recently attended the Australian Transplant Games in Newcastle NSW.  Josh won 9 medals most of which were in his age group 18-29 years and just to put those performances into perspective, we believe Josh was the only athlete at the games who in addition to being a transplantee, also happened to be legally blind.  Congratulations Josh.
