There is currently very little research into white matter diseases in Australia. This has changed when Associate Professor Matthias Klugmann and his team started their work in the Translational Neuroscience Facility at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 2010. Since then Matthias was awarded a prestigious Future Fellowship by the Australian Research Council (ARC) for his research program on the role of a major brain metabolite in the etiology of leukodystrophies.
