Our organisation exists through limited support from government and the generous donations from organisations and individuals, enabling us to fulfil our mission and aims.

Our founder

The organisation was founded in August 1992 by Sr Julie Thomas OAM (a sufferer herself) with the aim of providing information and support to patients and families affected by this debilitating group of genetic diseases.
Sr Julie was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in January 2001 in recognition of her service to the organisation.
Today, the ALDS is run by a strong volunteer committee (drawn from parents and supporters) with representatives from five states: Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia.
ALDS Ambassador

John Olsen recently became an Ambassador for the ALDS. John has already expressed his heart and soul commitment to our group through the marathon ‘Longest Walk for an Aussie Kid’. We know that John will continue to do all that he can to support and encourage our endeavours over the course of his time as Ambassador. Thank you most sincerely John for continuing to work on our behalf. We look forward to the many occasions when we can share our work together.
